The octopus (pronounced /ˈɒktəpəs/, from Greek ὀκτάπους (oktapous), “eight-footed”,with plural forms: octopuses /ˈɒktəpʊsɪz/, octopi /ˈɒktəpaɪ/, or octopodes /ɒkˈtɒpədiːz/, see below) is a cephalopod of the order Octopoda that inhabits many diverse regions of the ocean, especially coral reefs.
